Honda B16 1.6 16v Vtec The B-series are a family of inline four-cylinder DOHC automotive engines introduced by Honda in 1989. The B-series were aimed more as a performance option featuring dual-overhead cams along with the first application of Honda's VTEC system. The Honda Vtec system was a great success and is still used today on other Honda engine models. The system was renowned for performance and reliability.
Honda B series engines were produced up until 2001 and didn't change much over the years. And were found in the Honda CRX Civic and Integra. For class 11 rallying we tend to use the B16A and B16B(Type R) engines. These engines are a great base for power and reliability even in standard form. The B16A2 producing 160bhp and the B16B producing 185bhp as standard. For our high spec engine we tend to use the B16A2 block and head and B16B crankshaft. We use many different after market performance parts to produce an engine that is very well suited to the demands of rallying with loads of power, a very wide power band and very reliable. |
We have spent a lot of time over the years developing these engines and this development continues. Our current top spec engine produces 240bhp and 150lbft. With a safe rev limit of 9300rpm. The key to these engines is producing a wide, level torque range. Power is easy but a wide torque band is what makes the difference.
